The Volkswagen Beetle is an automotive icon that has defined several generations. While it was the car that powered Germany into post war prosperity, it defined the counter culture of the United States in the 1960's, then in 1998 the "New Beetle" exploded on the scene and helped redefine Volkswagen for a new generation.
Now, the Beetle is ready for it's third act, as it is reborn and reengineered for the 21st Century. The 2012 Beetle is all new, it draws on its past for inspiration, yet, sets forward on a new path to stand on its own as it writes a new chapter in Volkswagen's history.
With bolder more dynamic lines, the 2012 Beetle will not only be the people's car, but a driver's car as well. The Beetle will be lower, longer and wider to offer greater interior space while at the same time providing a platform for sportier handling. The Beetle will be offered with the options of a TDI® Clean Diesel offering 40 MPG on the highway, a turbo charged direct injected 2.0L turbo four cylinder with 200 horsepower, or the 2.5L inline 5 cylinder.
The 21st Century Beetle will offer safety, sportiness, and premium features like the Fender Audio System panoramic sunroof and navigation, it will redefine to all what the Volkswagen Beetle is all about.
