The Volkswagen Guide to Tires
The following types of tires are Original Equipment on Volkswagen vehicles
All Season Tires. These tires provide a balance of a smooth, comfortable and quiet ride with traction in wet conditions and long tread life. They carry a speed rating2 of T and have a sidewall aspect ratio3 of 65 or greater.
All-Season High Performance Tires. These tires deliver excellent wet traction without sacrificing the handling grip and cornering capabilities. These tires carry a speed rating2 of H, V, Z, Y, or W and have a sidewall aspect ratio3 of 65 or less.
High Performance Tires.1 These tires offer the highest degree of handling grip and cornering ability compared to standard passenger car tires. They carry a speed rating2 of H or Y and have a sidewall aspect ratio3 of 65 or less. Some of these tires may also be referred to as Ultra High Performance.
Light Truck Tires. These tires provide comfort, handling, traction load-carrying capacity and stability for Sport Utility Vehicles and Light Trucks.
Winter Tires. Winter tires are not Original Equipment tires, but are recommended for winter driving, as they deliver improved traction in snowy and icy conditions. They are usually constructed of special rubber compounds which remain pliable to provide grip in cold temperatures. These tires are available in nearly all speed ratings and sizes and may also be referred to as Snow tires.
1These tires are not suited for usage on ice or snow.
You must install winter or all-season tires if you may have to drive on ice or snow.
2The Speed Rating denotes the maximum speed at which a tire is designated to be driven on for extended periods of time under test conditions. The letter ratings and corresponding speed ratings according to European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization (ETRTO) are as follows:
H (130mph), T (118mph), Y (186mph).
3The Aspect Ratio is the ratio of the tire's height (measured from the inner rim to the outside edge) to its width (sidewall to sidewall). Higher aspect ratios mean a bigger sidewall. Lower numbers generally indicate lower profile high performance tire.
Why Volkswagen Original Equipment and Volkswagen Recommended Tires?
Tires are an important component of your Volkswagen driving experience. They provide the four points of contact between your vehicle and the road. Tires affect acceleration, cornering, braking and your overall handling and performance.
Volkswagen engineers select Original Equipment tires that will best meet the specifications of each vehicle.
Selection is based on comprehensive testing that cover a variety of area such as:
- Traction
- Stability
- Comfort
- Road Noise
- Thread Life
- Load and Speed Requirements
The Volkswagen vehicle specifications and the results of tire testing determine which sizes, brands and types of tires will be approved for Original Equipment use.
Replacing the tires on your Volkswagen with those that do not meet the Original Equipment specifications or are not Volkswagen recommended (different brand, size or type) may compromise the handling, comfort and safety of your vehicle.

Volkswagen Tire Store Assembly Return Policy
All dealers participating in the Volkswagen Tire Store program may return assemblies purchased through the program within 30 days of receipt of goods. Customers will be charged a restocking fee totaling 20% of the purchase price of the assembly for those eligible returns and are responsible for the freight to return them to the specified Volkswagen Tire Store warehouse.
All returns may never have been mounted on a vehicle and must be in "as new" condition. Assemblies that have been classified as discontinued or obsolete may not be returned at any time. Volkswagen Tire Store retains the right to inspect all returns prior to acceptance and may reject the return if they are found to be non-conforming to this policy in any way. Returned assemblies that do not meet these criteria will be returned to the Customer at their purchase price.
Volkswagen New Car Take-Off Wheel & Tire Packages
We have a great deal on take-off wheels from the ports. These tires have very few miles on them and there is an assortment of wheels available. There wheels are mounted and balanced, they have hubcaps for steel wheels and center caps for the alloy wheels, and the best news yet, they come with TPMS!! Go ahead and price out the individual parts, center caps, TPMS, wheel, and tire and see just what a great deal this really is. You cannot get the OEM tire alone for this price!!!
