When we take a closer look at the 2017 VW Golf and the 2017 Mazda3, it’s obvious that there are quite a few similarities. However, there are also a lot of differences that we’re going to continue to point out. It’s important for us to mention that we’re only comparing the base models for both vehicles. We’re focusing on the VW Golf TSI S and the Mazda3 Sport Hatchback. Each one has seating for up to five with plenty of legroom and cargo space. The Golf has 52.7 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear, and the Mazda3 has slightly less with 47.1 cubic feet.

As for safety, both vehicles are equipped with standard airbags, traction control, daytime running lights and low tire pressure indicators. The 2017 VW Golf comes out on top with an available Blind-Spot Monitoring System, which is not offered on the Mazda3. Other standard features for both vehicles include cruise control, remote keyless entry and Bluetooth capabilities. Again the Golf comes out on top with lumbar support in the driver and front passenger seat, theft-deterrent radio, heated side mirrors and a driver information center. These features are not available on the Mazda3.
